The meeting

A meeting built around shared learning

Dear Friends,

Bad outcomes are often underreported in the medical literature and at professional meetings. Yet when things go wrong, sharing what we learn can help us avoid repeating the same mistakes and improve care for future patients.

At the Marbella Aortic Symposium, participants were invited to examine complications critically and constructively: from the original indication and planning through the technical procedure and the post-intervention period. Learning from catastrophes is a lesson in humility, and a way to show respect for our past and future patients.

Cardiac and vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, intensivists, anaesthetists and cardiologists came together to present cases and studies. The symposium also introduced a relaxed, collaborative format in Marbella, on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

A shared effort

The symposium was directed by Dr. Pedro J. Aranda Granados and co-directed by Dr. José Joaquín Muñoz Ruiz-Canela.
